Discover the flora and fauna of the Amazon on a trip to Napo Wildlife Center, the most luxurious lodge in the Ecuadorian Amazon!

Day 1

  • Outward flight to Quito from Coca
  • Boat and canoe transfer
  • Arrival at Napo Wildlife Center

Your trip begins with a 30 minute flight leaving Quito for the town of Coca in the jungle. Once there, you will embark on a motor boat and sail down the Napo river for approximately 2 hours. Continue your voyage into the heart of the jungle by canoe and reach the Napo Wildlife Center. In the afternoon, recuperate from the journey in your lodge and relax by the lake.

Day 2

  • Discover 2 Parrot Colonies
  • Visit an Indian Community

In the early morning, leave the lodge to discover a colony of Parrots assembled on a “Parrot clay lick” (a clay wall). You can spot over 11 bird species including parrots, parakeets and scarlet macaws. Later on, meet the Kichwa Añangu Indian community and discover the traditions and costums of these inhabitants. Head out on a forest walk to meet a parakeet colony and have lunch before being taken back your lodge.

Day 3

  • Observation Tower (36 meters high)
  • Canoe rides
  • The guided jungle walking tour accompanied by your guide.

In the morning, visit a 36-meter high observation tower located in the heart of the forest. Enjoy an unobstructed view of the jungle and its birds. Admire a number of birds that can’t be seen from the ground including tangaras, scarlet macaws and toucans thanks to a telescope (supplied by your guide). Take a canoe trip down the river and witness black caimans, sea otters and even anacondas! Lunch at the Napo center and explore the jungle by foot accompanied by your guide. You can meet lizards, a variety of monkey species, insects, snakes and many other animals.

Day 4

  • Boat and canoe transfer
  • Return trip from Coca to Quito

Return to Quito by the same modes of transport on your last day: canoe, motor boat and a 30 minute flight. The return journey will allow you to admire the surrounding birds and jungle wildlife. 

Notes on the 5 days / 4 nights excursion: 

If you have booked a 5-day trip, you benefit from an extra day at the Napo Wildlife Center and can take additional activities in other parts of the jungle (hike, canoe, bird-watching etc.).

  • Availability: Monday to Saturday (excluding exceptional dates)
  • Duration: 4 days / 3 nights (or 5 days / 4 nights)
  • Departure time: Flight from Quito to Coca at 11:20am – Return flight from Coca to Quito at 11:40am. Please arrive 1 hour before the scheduled departure time
  • Languages: English and Spanish (French is available upon request and for a surcharge)
  • Luggage weight is limited to 23 kilograms per person for the flights
  • The center supplies rubber boots and rain ponchos free-of-charge
  • It is strongly recommended to pack a good pair of binoculars, zip lock-type plastic bags to cover optics or other devices and a flashlight for night walks
  • All of the cabins at the Napo Wildlife Center are equipped with a private bathroom with hot water, electricity and a balcony
  • The present program is subject to change by your guide. You will take part in all of the activities offered but not necessarily in the indicated order
  • Your guide is an expert on the habits and behavior of wild animals. He will be a great asset in seeking out the maximum number of species to observe
  • Group size for the various activities vary between 2 to 10 participants depending on the number of guests present during your stay. The lodge will do its maximum to maintain small group sizes
  • The Napo Center is located in an isolated spot and offers a maximum of 16 rooms. The center is equipped with a library, a bar offering drinks made from local ingredients and a restaurant specialized in both international and traditional cuisine.
  • In order to minimize its environmental impact, the Napo Wildlife Center uses energy generated from solar panels, industrial batteries and silent generators. The center is managed by the Kichwa Añangu Community
  • Activities will begin early in the morning to take advantage of cool temperatures and coincide with animal activity
  • ​A 6-meter high observation tour is located at the center and accessible at all times, giving you a 360° view of the surrounding jungle
  • The Amazon jungle is not a zoo and its vegetation is very thick, it is therefore impossible to guarantee the presence of certain animals
