Visit Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt, and the pyramids south of Cairo: from Giza to Saqqarah accompanied by a professional Egyptologist guide!
After a transfer from your hotel by air-conditioned vehicle, you'll head to Saqqarah, which is south of Cairo. Once there, you'll tour one of the largest necropolises in Egypt, notably the Djoser step pyramid. It was the first royal funerary complex built entirely of cut stone around 2,630 BC by Imhotep, who was the pharaoh Djoser's architect.
You'll continue with a trip to Memphis, Egypt's first capital, founded after the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt in 3,100 BC. It's here that you can admire the colossal statue of Ramses II.
You'll have lunch at a local restaurant (lunch not included) recommended by your guide, before heading to the famous Giza pyramids. Use the drive to take in the breathtaking view of the Cheops, Khafre and Menkaure pyramids. At the entrance, you'll find the the Great Sphinx which sits in front of the three pyramids.
You'll end your visit with the "Valley Temple", part of Khafre's funerary complex, which was used to house the deceased's sarcophagus after it had crossed the river and before it was carried along the causeway to the tomb inside the pyramid.
After this fascinating insight into Ancient Egypt, you'll be taken back to your hotel in central Cairo.
