Accompanied by your guide, set off to tour the Royal Palace of Madrid as well as the Prado Museum, two must-see landmarks in the Spanish capital!
After meeting up with your guide in the morning, you'll set off on a half-day tour of the Royal Palace of Madrid and the Prado Museum.
Your guide will start with the Royal Palace, the largest palace in Europe! You'll be amazed by the size of this 18th-century palace, which combines Baroque and classical architecture. The King of Spain no longer lives in the palace, but its symbolic significance means that it's used for state ceremonies.
During the guided tour, you'll enter the Hall of the Halberdiers, where the Royal Guard was once stationed. Your guide will also show you other important rooms in the Palace, such as the throne room, the apartments used by King Charles III and the Queen, the rococo-style Gasparini drawing room that was once the King's bedroom, the royal chapel and armoury, and the main staircase.
You'll then board a coach and head to the Prado Museum. You'll find 1,000 works on display that cover over four centuries of artistic movements. You'll see masterpieces by famous artists such as Velázquez, Goya, Sorolla, El Greco and El Bosco. Your guide will tell you all about the history, movements and interesting facts behind these Spanish, Italian and Flemish works.
Once this half-day tour has finished, you're free to stay on and explore more of the museum at your own pace.
