Descrição

Go on a tour to discover Mexico City's historic palaces and buildings!

The capital of Mexico, Ciudad de México (or CDMX for short) is a city with a rich historical past. The former capital of the Aztec empire with the name Tenochtitlan, it was completely destroyed by the Spanish conquistadors when they arrived in 1521. It was Cortés who decided to build the capital of New Spain on its ruins, which he named "México". The first major European-style city on the American continent, colonial buildings and baroque churches from that era are still standing.

You will meet your guide at the departure point and begin your walking tourof the city and its most beautiful historic buildings.

You will visit the Museo Nacional de Arte (MUNAL). In a Neoclassical building dating from the time of Porfirio Díaz (early 20th century), the museum houses a collection of Mexican art from the late pre-Hispanic era to the early 20th century.

Nearby, the Museo Banco de México (National Bank of Mexico Museum) will give you an idea of how the country's economy works. This is the birthplace of the Mexican peso

A few steps away, you'll enter Mexico City's Palacio de Correos (the post office!), known for being an architectural masterpiece, mixing several styles (art nouveau, Moorish, Venetian, etc.), which you will be able to admire from all sides. The interior is as impressive as the exterior with its rich iron and bronze decorations and its huge staircase.

Finally, this historical and architectural discovery would not be complete without a visit to the Palais des Beaux-Arts, the city's icon. The first opera house in Mexico City, it was built between 1901 and 1934. While its white marble façade is in Art Nouveau style, the interior is more Art Deco, with numerous murals, including some by Mexican artist Diego Rivera.
